How about a little reality check on that New Year’s resolution you made to lose weight, eat healthier or start exercising?  Are you still going strong?  Or do you prefer not to talk about it? Don’t feel too bad if your enthusiasm for change has faded to frustration. We’re here to remind you that it’s okay and there’s always a plan for you to get back on track to a healthier lifestyle.

1. Avoid crash dieting – This is common among those who want to lose weight faster. Even if you lose some kilos from drastically cutting your calorie intake, it’s most likely that you are losing water and lean muscles instead of body fats. Depriving yourself of proper nutrition while on a diet is not proven effective in the long run.

2. Recognise your food temptations – Temptations are tough to ignore and craving for chocolate, salty or sugary foods are among the most common. Try not to store these snacks at home and stick to your list when grocery shopping. A great tip is to plan your snacks ahead of time and portion them into containers so they’re ready to go! These can be mixed berries, vegetable sticks and nuts. Remember to eat your snacks mindfully and without distractions, such as watching TV.

3. Schedule easy workouts – Don’t punish yourself with an intense workout after a weekend of poor food choices. This can lead to muscle strain that can make it harder for you to consistently exercise. Start with the basics and gradually increase levels at your own pace.

4. Have your fitness partners ready – Find a fitness friend who will join you in a morning walk or after work fitness class to help keep you accountable. You may not stick with your workouts on your own but when you know that someone else is counting on you, you’ll be more likely to show up. Reliv’s meal replacement shake, ReShape is formulated to support healthy weight loss and weight management. How healthy is ‘healthy’?
